United States

Using a graphic novel about a family of Syrian refugees, we will model a culturally responsive, trauma-informed approach to storytelling that centers on students’ experiences. You will learn about current refugee populations and policies, with an emphasis on refugees in K-12 educational settings. We will practice strategies for empathetically eliciting stories in the classroom, giving all students a sense of community, engagement and pride.
